Spades is a four-player game with two teams. Teammates sit across from each other.

  • Win the specified number of bids to get required number of points.
  • Each round, players bid on the number of tricks they expect to collect, ranging from 0 to 13.
  • The game starts with the player left of the dealer. Players must follow the lead suit or play a Spade if unable to.
  • Player with the highest ranking card wins the trick. Even the lowest Spade card can take the trick!
  • At the end of the round, each player counts their tricks won.
  • A player earns one point per overtrick, but reaching the bag limit results in a penalty.
  • If a player bids nil and wins no tricks, the team earns 100 bonus points. If the player takes a trick, they score -100 points.
  • Bidding nil without looking at the cards is called 'blind nil'. It's worth 200 points if successful, or -200 if failed.
